Eden & North Pennines
Augill Castle in Kirkby Stephen
The castle has eight bedrooms, two of which are ground floor garden rooms – one with its own private conservatory – and two bedroom Stable Yard Cottage a few yards from the castle across the courtyard.
“Simon & Wendy have poured all their creative talent into the palatial bedrooms and the results are stunning”
Cumbria Life Magazine
All the rooms have very a distinct character. Superbly furnished with big antique beds and soft sofas, guests can also expect to find such unusual additions to their rooms as an old gramophone, a piano, an Indonesian blowpipe or even African tribal masks. You may find your room has its own turrets, stained glass windows or fireplace.
Bathrooms are luxurious, nearly all with double ended or Victorian claw-footed baths and big showers that drench rather than pummel you.
There are three four poster rooms, two of which include turrets. All the bedrooms upstairs have leaded windows and views of the garden and fells beyond.
The coffee in your room is freshly ground not instant and there are homemade biscuits, a decanter of sherry and chocolates on your pillow to welcome you. And if you need extra company, you’ll even find an Augill teddy bear in every room.
“Wendy & Simon spoil you with a happy, family atmosphere, magnificent feasts, huge pillows, handmade chocolates, sherry and massive tubs”
