Lake District Peninsulas
Grange End self catering holiday cottage in Cark in Cartmel

Two charming 19th century cottages with roaring log fire, 4 poster bed, oak beams and every modern convenience you could desire. "This is one of the finest holiday cottages in The English Lake District", a "real home from home", "everything you could want and much more too". “The best cottage in the best location”. These are just a few of the many comments written by our guests, many of whom return regularly.

Situated in the beautiful Cartmel valley with its lush green fields and gentle rolling hills. Located just south of Lake Windermere and west of the small Victorian and Edwardian town of Grange-Over-Sands, these charming grade 2 listed cottage are to be found in a secluded and peaceful position, at the end of a cobbled lane near the heart of the small, unspoilt and peaceful village of Cark-in-Cartmel. The cottages are set away from roads yet only a minute’s stroll to either of the 2 village pubs, both serving good food and great local beer. Both pubs allow dogs and have areas where children are welcomed too. Two perfect cottages for romantic breaks for couples, family holidays, and groups of friends.

Cark-in-Cartmel village is pleasantly unaffected by the influx of tourism that can crowd other parts of the Lake District and is a true ‘Cumbrian working village’, set around the small ‘Mill Race’ river and just a 5 minute walk to the bay. There is a great variety of walks available from the doorstep to suite everyone from the novice ambler to the keenest rambler. The local area has an abundance of award winning restaurants & pubs, wonderful uncrowded walks and peaceful leafy lanes. The medieval village of Cartmel, south Lakeland’s oldest and prettiest village is just 1½ miles north with a wealth of interesting shops, narrow cobbled lanes, 12th century priory and race course.

Just around the corner from the cottage is Holker Hall, Cumbria's premier stately home, the home of Lord & Lady Cavendish. Residents and visitors of the village are granted permission to walk around the extensive parklands stocked with herds of deer and rare breed cattle and sheep. Lake Windermere is a short 10 minute drive north.

Grange End Cottage has consistently been awarded 4 stars by ‘Enjoy England’ (formerly Visit Britain). Carree Cottage is to the same standard.

Mountains, sea, lush green valleys, rivers, streams, waterfalls and lakes. Grange End and Carree Cottages in Cartmel Valley provide the perfect escape and guaranteed beautiful scenery whatever the season. Relaxation & tranquillity is assured whatever season you choose.
