Low Garden
The South front of the house looks down towards the terraces and the low garden, which was a formal rhododendron garden, laid out in 1870 by Lady vane under the Guidance of Anthony Salvin. The Vanes came to Hutton by way of Kent and Durham and their descendants remained for around two centuries. The design of the paths in the low garden is based on the form of two interlocking stars and although the planting of the rhododendrons is long past its prime wonderful blooms are still to be enjoyed. |
