Turning to that pleasant preoccupation with food. The breakfast menu (interestingly enough available to non-residents) is to die for, and there is little doubt that if you indulged too often, you may do just that! One option - Cumbrian Rarebit of mature Lancashire cheese and locally dry-cured bacon with an apple and onion chutney and a fried egg is certainly a new experience. Lunch can be a bowl of imaginative home-made soup with perhaps an open ciabatta sandwich of Brie with Lyth Valley damsons from down the road. Or it could be a two or three course affair seated in the dining room at £20.00 or £25.00 respectively. Sunday luncheon is the traditional item with three courses at £27.00.
