The ancient town of Appleby straddles the River Eden in the middle of the beautiful Eden Valley. The town hosts the most famous horse fair in Great Britain which dates back to 1685. The area shown here is known as Boroughgate and leads from the Castle at the top of the town down to the market square and St Lawrence's church at the bottom.
