| Eden Valley & North Pennines
The Eden region gets its name from the river that
runs through most of its length. Lacey’s
Caves, on the upper banks of the Eden, which were dug out of
the red sandstone rocks, can be reached from the village of Great
Salkeld.
Nearby to the market town of Appleby is Rutter
Force – an impressive waterfall, which powers a mill
wheel. The two main lakes in this region are Ullswater,
and Haweswater (which is actually
a reservoir) both which lie within the Lake District National Park.
England’s best known ridge – Striding
Edge, climbs up to Helvellyn, which is the Lake District’s
third highest mountain.
