Eden Valley & North
Pennines
Penrith town centre
Penrith, in the Eden Valley, is one of the
best known towns in Cumbria with charter dating from 1223.
The town was the capital of old Cumbria; now an important market
town and a centre for the local and national farming community.
Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy lived here for a while and
were pupils at the local school. Nowadays Penrith has a mixture
of old and new including some shops which have been trading
for two hundred years.
