Seathwaite
The hamlet of Seathwaite is situated deep
within Borrowdale Valley and is actually only made up of a
couple of farms. Seathwaite is a popular starting point for
the ascent of the higher summits in the area – Great
Gable (2949ft/899m), bessyboot (2560ft/783m) or the highest
of England’s summits Scafell Pike (3210ft/987m). Styhead
Pass, which links Seathwaite to Wasdale, remains a footpath – there
was talk in the 19th century of building a coach road over
to connect these two!
