Sty Head Mountain Rescue Post
The Mountain Rescue Post is situated on a
well known ‘crossroads’ to those familiar to the
Lakeland fells. It sits on a col just above Styhead Tarn and,
from here, access to the highest points of the region can be
reached. The peak of Scafell Pike (3205ft/978m) can be reached
along the ‘Corridor Route' which traverses the dark slope
to the left of the rescue post. Great Gable (2949ft/899m),
another of Lakeland’s favourites, can be ascended by
taking the relatively steep path to the right of the rescue
post and following up to the summit. Wasdale and Wastwater
lie down the valley to the south-west below the path of the
Corridor Route; Borrowdale and Seathwaite lie north-east of
here down past Styhead Tarn.
