Kirkby Lonsdale - St Mary's Church
Records from the church of St Mary suggest
that an old Saxon church situated in Kirkby Lonsdale was granted
to the Abbey of St Mary's of York by a local warlord in 1093.
There appears to be nothing left of the Saxon church and the
church of St Mary that exists now is a Norman construction
and is believed to have been built somewhere around the turn
of the 10th century.
