South Lakes
Tarn Hows

Tarn Hows is one of the Lake District's most famous beauty spots. It was actually made by joining together two smaller tarns at the turn of the 19th century, although the careful landscaping and the tree-planting programme that took place has left no clues of its history. The tarn is circled by a level path, just over a mile long, with picnic spots on the way round. The view from just above the tarn looks towards the Langdale Pikes (in the distance) and the rounded top of Wetherlam closer by.
