Tilberthwaite Gill is reached by a dead-end lane, which leaves the main A593 in a northerly direction. Following the gill upwards takes you to the higher Coniston Fells and Wetherlam or following the paths in a northerly direction the Little Langdale Valley can be reached. Looking back along the path into the distance, the u-shaped col of Dunmail Raise can seen (which rises out of Grasmere), with the Helvellyn range to the right of that.
