The Buttermere Valley
The small hamlet of Buttermere can be seen
nestled between the lake of the same name and Crummock Water
to the north. It is easy to see that the two were once a single
lake – the alluvial plain of only a few fields was formed
by debris washed down from the surrounding fells. The Buttermere
Valley is an important farming area, with ample grazing land
for the hardy Herdwick sheep.
