Western Lake District
St Bees

It is thought that the first Cumbrians inhabited St Bees in Mesolithic times due to the abundant supply of fish, flint and wild fowl, and lack of forestation, which would have covered the rest of the region. Nowadays, it is a small holiday village, with a picturesque array of sandstone Georgian buildings.
