The shopping centre of the town is now mostly pedestrianised and the market place comes to life twice weekly with a Thursday and a Saturday market. The town is the start of the C2C – the cyclists ‘coast to coast’, which finishes at either Sunderland or Tynemouth. There are many sculptures and works of art along the route of the C2C, and indeed around Whitehaven, including this bronze statue in the market place.
