Augill Castle, Kirkby Stephen

As with all good country houses, the table is at the heart of the castle. House parties and weddings for up to forty can dine banquet style along two eighteen foot oak tables and smaller groups eat together around one huge dining table.

On no less lavish a scale, roaming feasts can be laid on for up to sixty.

When not catering for weddings and parties, Simon & Wendy hold special dinner weekends throughout the year when you can join the castle’s informal dinner parties and it is here that new friendships are often forged.

“As dinner progresses you begin to sense that this isn’t quite like anywhere you have visited before.” -
Manchester Evening News

Simon & Wendy use local produce whenever possible. Cooking at Augill is modern British, combining different styles and sometimes challenging tastebuds.

“The meals are informal feasts.”
Special Places to Stay in Britain

Breakfast, a leisurely affair which seldom starts before nine, is no less of an extravagance including freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade bread, the finest Cumberland bacon, locally oak smoked salmon and free-range eggs from the farm next door.

A wine list with a distinctly new world bias complements the food. And in the Drawing Room is the informal bar from which you can serve yourself.
